If you are a true atheist or humanist, then you should recognise that we only have one life, that there is no afterlife and therefore in death our life should be celebrated, as our body is just a broken piece of organic machinery.

Just like any broken machinery that is beyond repair, it can be salvaged for spare parts that can help others, extending the one life that they have. So go on, sign up and help extend someone elses life after you have lived yours.

Send a copy of The God Delusion to your Irish MP

Currently there is an election looming and the plan is after the election to send a copy of The God Delusion to every elected representative in the new government. Unfortunately atheist.ie is new and currently has only a little over two hundered members. Help them out today!

Email John Humphries to support Humanist contributions to Thought For the Day

John Humphries has asked people to email in if they wanted humanist thinkers included in Thought for the Day so please take the time to contact the Today programme on today@bbc.co.uk and make the case for non-religious thinkers to be included! Many people sent emails in support of Joan Bakewell when she too appeared (on Radio 4’s Feedback) to argue for the inclusion of humanists – if you didn’t then, please email now! If you did, please email again!

This item was initiated by the British Humanist Association.

Email your MP about Bishops in the House of Lords

Ask your MP to support any moves made to remove Bishops from the House of Lords and to insist that the government consider the question of Bishops as part of the plans for Lords reform.

See a BHA briefing on all the arguments for the removal of the Bishops.

Email your MP to help make Humanist Weddings Legal

You can email directly with a pro-forma that is available via the above link. There is also the explanation of why you should support this.

Email your MP about the teaching of Creationism as science

Ask your MP to lobby the DfES to alter the National Curriculum for Science to make it explicit that Creationism and Intelligent Design are not scientific theories and should not be taught as scientific theories.

Complain to the BBC about Thought For The Day on Radio 4

Radio 4's Thought For The Day slot explicitly excludes anyone who is non-religious from contributing. Read my complaint and the BBC's response so far, and follow my lead.

Get Involved with Your Local SACRE (Standing Advisory Council on Religious Education)

Education is probably very high on your list of concerns about the role of religion in our society - it is also the easiest one where you as an individual can become involved in doing something about it rather than just moaning about it.

Find out how to get involved.

Respond to Consultations by the Office Of Communications (OFCOM)

OFCOM is the regulator for the UK communications industries, with responsibilities across television, radio, telecommunications and wireless communications services, and has consultations that the public can contribute to. A recent consultation was about allowing religious programmes to request donations that will likely lead to tele-evangelism like the US here in the UK. It is too late to consult on that one, but there may be others.
